Our Equine Assisted Learning program was created and tested by Gayle Cartier and Janice Boucher of Cartier Farms in Saskatchewan, Canada. The program has and is still being clinically tested by third party research that supports it’s benefits for mental wellbeing.
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is experimental learning with horses as the teachers. EAL has proven to be effective, powerful, positive, educational, and creative. Horses are great EAL team members because their feedback is honest and instant, they do not judge and they constantly assess the situation.
In this program, learners are encouraged to navigate through obstacles with their horse partners. Each exercise has an objective and a skilled facilitator will support the team by asking questions to help them complete the obstacles/tasks. One of the benefits is there is no wrong way to do these exercises and there are so many ways that you can interpret what you are required to for completion. “Think outside the BOX”.
EAL can benefit everyone. No riding or previous experience is required; all exercises are done from the ground. EAL exercises create an innovative way to develop empowering life skills.
Cartier/Dreamwinds EAL programs are so versatile that the exercises are implemented for PTSD, at risk youth, corporate, family days and date nights.

Our Equine Assisted Learning – Canada program was created by Ross and Dee MacInnes of Higher Trails Ranch in Alberta, Canada.
Equine Assisted Learning – Canada is a different EAL approach than Cartier/Dreamwinds EAL. This EAL program has the same concept of changing lives through horses. We know that horses have the amazing ability to reach deep inside a human and touch those parts of their life that need attention. This EAL process helps make this happen and sets someone on a new path.
Trail of Heart is a six week program that is offered to adults who desire change in their life.
In Front of the Herd is a seven week program developed for youth.
